More awards

The British BAFTAs were given out on Sunday, and Slumdog Millionaire pretty much cleaned the slate. It got EIGHT awards (best film, director, adapted screenplay, music, cinematography, editing, sound and production design). Man, I really need to see the film before the Oscars!!!

Kate Winslet was awarded as the best actress for the Reader, which I haven’t seen yet. She was also nominated for Revolutionary Road, which I have seen, and although the performances were very good I thought the movie was a tad boring. The award for the best actor went to Mickey Rourke for The Wrestler and I’m not surprised. I went to see the film a week ago and it was very good. The movie is very thought-provoking and Mickey Rourke’s performance is amazingly good. The awards for supporting roles went to Penelope Cruz for Vicky Christina Barcelona and Heath Ledger for The Dark Knight, which was kind on meh. I think that Ledger was very good as Joker, but I can’t shake the feeling that they are giving the awards just because he died.

So there. The British have had their say in the matter. Now we wait for the 22. when the Academy gives out its awards. I’ve still got a few films to see before the event so I can make my own educated guesses on which films take away the prizes!
